We did it! You, our incredible supporter, helped StarVista provide another year of mental health and supportive services, and together, we reached our 55th-year milestone. Your support continues to make a transformative impact on the tens of thousands of people we serve every year, and we cannot be more grateful. From our first program, the StarVista Crisis Intervention Suicide Prevention Center, to our current portfolio of over 30 counseling, crisis prevention, youth housing, and outreach programs, we have grown to bridge the equity gaps that exist in our shared community.
If there is one lesson we’ve learned during our 55 years of service, it is that education about mental health makes for a stronger community. The StarVista Crisis Intervention Suicide Prevention Center routinely provides school presentations to help individuals discover our life-changing services and bring awareness to signs of suicidality and prevention. For individuals like Alana, these resources are critical when experiencing a crisis. Alana was able to take what she learned from a school presentation on crisis prevention and intervention and use it to support her aunt who was facing suicidal thoughts after a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. Her aunt struggled to understand life and expressed feelings of hopelessness and a lack of motivation to keep living. Thanks to StarVista, Alana was able to utilize our Crisis Hotline services to not only find support, care, and resources for her aunt, but also for herself.
